Milwaukee® Announces the First Lithium-Powered Soldering Iron in a Cordless Tool System Solution

Milwaukee Tool continues to deliver portable productivity by expanding the largest sub-compact system in the industry, the M12™ platform, with the M12 SI.

Milwaukee Tool continues to deliver portable productivity by expanding the largest sub-compact system in the industry, the M12 platform, with the M12 SI.

THE FIRST LITHIUM-POWERED SOLDERING SOLUTION AS PART OF A SYSTEM SOLUTION OF OVER 70 TOOLS, THE NEW TOOL HEATS QUICKLY AND MAINTAINS AN OPTIMISED TEMPERATURE THROUGHOUT THE MOST DEMANDING APPLICATIONS, DELIVERING UNMATCHED PRODUCTIVITY TO USERS THAT MAKE SOLDERED CONNECTIONS.

“The vast majority of soldering options available to users right now come with various drawbacks such as uncontrolled temperature, slow heat-up time, and limited portability. When designing the M12 SI, we focused on pairing the performance and temperature control of higher end benchtop soldering units, with the portability of butane,” said Bela Berecz, Product Manager for Milwaukee Tool. “By leveraging our M12 technology, we’ve developed a soldering solution that eliminates the previous frustrations associated with current tools and ensures users experience improved productivity no matter the application.”

The new M12 SI heats quickly, reaching operational temperature in 18 seconds, minimising downtime between applications.

Utilising REDLINK PLUS Intelligence, the tool monitors the temperature of the tip to power through demanding applications and prevents against overheating or damaging wires. A heat indicator notifies users when the tool is ready to use and safe to store. When turned on, the status LED blinks green to indicate the Soldering Iron is heating up. When the tool reaches soldering temperature, the light turns solid green. The tip will continue to increase in temperature until it reaches max temp (400°C). When the job is complete and the Iron is turned off, the LED will remain red until the tool reaches a temperature where it can be stored.

The M12 SI features a 3-stop pivoting head so users can lock the tool in multiple orientations to adapt the tool for the application. The slender design of the tool, paired with this 3-stop pivoting head and an LED work light, provides unmatched access and visibility to solder in confined spaces.

Available in January of 2018, the new M12 SI is compatible with the entire M12 System, now offering more than 70 professional cordless solutions focused on power, productivity, and portability. With the introduction of the M12 SI and the recently announced M18 Heat Gun, Milwaukee® now has a full solution for wire repair.
